DYPER’s Commitment to Safety, Transparency, and Trust
Jul 03, 2025
At DYPER™, our mission is to provide families with eco-friendly, high-performing disposable diapers that meet the highest standards of safety, skin compatibility, and plant-based content.
We recognize that concerns around PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have raised questions across the baby care industry. In fact, DYPER has been presented with unfounded allegations concerning DYPER’s products that are not based on science, DYPER’s marketing efforts, DYPER’s manufacturing practices, or reality. DYPER stands by its high quality products. But, since DYPER is aware of an effort to undermine DYPER’s excellent reputation in providing high quality products for our customers, it is important to address any concerns publicly. DYPER remains committed to transparency, safety, and sustainability, and wants to proactively address an allegation, including the allegation that there is somehow a “presence” of PFAS in DYPER’s products and that the associated advertising is not accurate.
Understanding PFAS and Our Commitment
There are a lot of mischaracterizations and misunderstandings around the topic of PFAS in products used in daily life. PFAS are a class of synthetic chemicals that are found throughout the environment due to industrial operations across the globe. PFAS are persistent, widespread, and can be detected at trace levels in many everyday items.
At DYPER, we do not purposefully add any PFAS or organic fluorine compounds to our diapers. To ensure product safety and skin compatibility, our diapers undergo thorough testing by independent, internationally recognized laboratories:
- PFAS Testing: Our diapers have been tested by Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services. These tests found no detectable levels of PFAS in our products. A popular environmental wellness blog, Mamavation, independently tested over 40 popular diaper brands for PFAS, and also found no detectable levels of PFAS in DYPER’s products. These test results evidence DYPER’s commitment to produce safe and sustainable products for your baby.
- Textile Safety Certification: Our diapers are certified under the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances, including PFAS. This certification confirms that every component of our diapers has passed rigorous safety evaluations and evidences our commitment to provide diapers that are free from harmful chemicals, non-toxic, and safe for babies. We ensure that our OEKO-TEX® certifications remain updated and continue to meet OEKO TEX’s® evolving safety standards.
- Dermatological Testing: We commissioned Dermatest, a trusted German dermatological institute, to conduct a clinical application study under dermatological supervision. Our diapers earned the Dermatest 5-star seal, which signifies the highest level of skin compatibility. DYPER also tested and confirmed that its Smurftastic diaper consists of 15% cotton in the back sheet. Both of the above evidence DYPER’s commitment to provide diapers that are safe, soft, dermatologist approved, and hypoallergenic.
Eliminating PFAS entirely is an evolving challenge in a world where these substances are virtually everywhere, from drinking water to dust. But DYPER is unequivocally committed to doing our part through vigilant sourcing, testing, and innovation. We are continuously reviewing and enhancing our sourcing, manufacturing, and testing protocols to reflect the most current scientific guidance. We stand behind the quality of our products and remain committed to full transparency, science-backed testing, and the well-being of the families who trust us.
Industrial Compostability
We’re proud to share that our diapers are designed to be compostable in industrial composting facilities that meet appropriate conditions. Accordingly, our diapers do not take 500 years to break down, unlike conventional plastic-based diapers. We continue to work closely with our composting partners to expand access to responsible disposal.
Our diaper is officially certified by the United States Department of Agriculture as containing 55% plant-based content, underscoring our commitment to promote plants over plastic by providing a diaper that is crafted with natural fibers. In addition, the outer layer film of our diaper is ASTM D6400 certified; a globally recognized standard that sets the criteria for plastics and plastic-containing products intended for composting in industrial aerobic composting facilities.
This thoughtful and purpose-driven product design has enabled us to build long-standing partnerships with established industrial composting providers across the country—partnerships we’ve cultivated and maintained over several years as part of our ongoing REDYPER™ program.
