Why Independent Testing with Dermatest Matters

Why Independent Testing with Dermatest Matters

At DYPER we believe in providing transparency and independent testing. That’s why we partner with Dermatest, a dermatological institute that thoroughly tests consumer products to give consumers the maximum possible confidence when using products that touch your baby’s skin. And let’s be honest, we know it’s hard to trust brands these days with all of the fluffy language and eco-washing, so we invest in independent testing that you can trust and ensures the highest standards are met for your child.

We also believe knowledge is power and the more information we can provide you with the better. To address your most-asked dermatological questions, we sat down with Dermatest's Senior Study Manager for Application Testing, Pia Beer, and Dr. Gerrit Schlippe (MD, PhD).

What is Dermatest and why does it matter?
Dermatest is an independent scientific dermatological testing institute based in Germany. At Dermatest, products are tested for their skin compatibility and efficacy in coordinated study designs. In this way, Dermatest ensures that these products and materials are skin-friendly and safe to use. The Dermatest quality seal indicates this promise and this safety to end consumers. Because special products for babies deserve the highest level of safety.

What does it mean if a product receives a 5-star Dermatest rating?

The 5-star seal applies to long-term application tests which provide the maximum
possible protection to rule out as much as possible subsequent skin reactions among the target demographic: products that have been tested in this way can be termed “clinically tested”. The studies are conducted under dermatological control with at least 20 subject volunteers and an application time period of at least 4 weeks with application to intended areas of the skin. Consumers are coming across the Original Dermatest® seal of approval as evidence of consumer safety in more and more ways. As a guarantee for the traceability of the test methods, the Original Dermatest® seal of approval is a clear mark of quality for your products.

Why does independent testing matter?

Dermatest is independent of the opinions or importance of any investor or company
involved and is not dependent on the turnover of any single major sponsor. Dermatest works for small, medium, and global companies, our results are scientifically valid and backed by our biologists, chemists and dermatologists. Our results therefore reflect the truth in terms of amicability and efficiency according to the latest methods in cosmetology.

What is involved when testing baby products?

Baby products are tested on the people who will use them - the babies. The parents of the subject participate voluntarily. Naturally, the test products are toxicologically evaluated before testing to ensure maximum safety for this sensitive group. Dermatologists are available at all times to assess the babies' skin before, during and after the test and to provide advice and treatment if the babies' skin changes.

What causes diaper rash exactly?
Diaper rash is a common form of irritated skin (dermatitis) that looks like patches of
inflamed skin on your baby's bottom. It's often related to wet or infrequently changed diapers, skin sensitivity, and chafing. Signs and symptoms of diaper rash include:

  • Inflamed skin in the diaper area — buttocks, thighs and genitals
  • Itchy, tender skin in the diaper area
  • Sores in the diaper area
  • Discomfort, fussiness or crying, especially during diaper changes

What are the three tips parents can do to protect their children’s skin?
The best way to prevent your babies' skin from developing diaper rash is to keep the diaper area clean and dry. Change diapers often, Rinse your baby's bottom with warm water as part of each diaper change and gently pat the skin dry with a clean towel or let it air dry.
  • Apply cream, paste or ointment regularly. After changing diapers, wash your hands well.
  • Fasten diapers securely but not too tight and give your baby's bottom more time without a diaper.

We are incredibly proud that our diapers have received Dermatests highest 5-star rating and to continue to work with them to ensure we are giving you nothing but the best for your baby. Shop our diapers now!
Babies have high standards and they should. Try DYPER diapers that will meet them every baby step of the way.
